Frank Miller’s Xerexes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander!

Xerxes Limited Lithograph Print 2010

If you’re a fan of comic books, Frank Miller is a name you’ve probably heard many times. Miller is considered by many to be one of the most prolific creators in the comic medium.

Frank Miller pictured at a comic-con in 1982

Miller’s work on Daredevil from 1979 to 1983 was for many readers their first introduction to the gritty world of Matt Murdock. While his re-imagining of Batman with The Dark Knight Returns released in 1986, changed how comics were viewed by not only fans, but layman as well. His version of Batman replaced the campy version and brought about the hyper realistic and darker adaptation seen in many films involving the Dark Knight.

Frank Miller’s storied past along with the many other titles under his belt between now and then, Frank Miller returns to the rich universe of 300 with Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander, a five part mini series from Dark Horse Comics. Here is some information on the release of the book.

If you are interested in this title, feel free to contact us as we will be putting in the order for this title soon.

Diamond Comics Distribution Presents Time Warp with “Best Practices Award for best Graphic Novel Section”

Time Warp Comics has been awarded the “Best Practices Award for Best Graphic Novel Section”, by Diamond Comics Distributors.

We are honored to be considered for such an award, as there are so many stores out there who have great graphic novel selections.

Here is the write up Diamond did concerning Time Warp’s graphic novel selection, as taken from their website.

https://retailerservices.diamondcomics.com/DiamondDaily/209/201954

“Despite competing within a group of well-qualified candidates, Time Warp Comics in Boulder, Colorado walked away with Diamond’s fall Best Practices Award for best Graphic Novel section. Diamond was able to catch up with Wayne Winsett, owner of Time Warp Comics, to reflect on what makes a great graphic novel section.”

What makes your Graphic Novel Section unique compared to any other store’s?

Wayne: The cool thing about our graphic novel section is quantity and quality. We carry all publishers, and divide them on our shelves so people can find what they need quickly and easily. Of course we are always here to help guide to the right place, but we also have other sub categories, which are:  All ages, Joss Whedon section, Award Winners, Recommended graphic novel, Vertigo , Art, Books About Comics, etc.

What, in your opinion, is the most important aspect of creating a good Graphic Novel section?

Keeping it organized alphabetically and making sure customers can find what they need easily. Neatness counts!

Do you take any tips from libraries or book stores?

No, we have been around so long, I think they take tips from us. One unique thing we’ve done here since the mid 1970’s is we give a 10% discount of graphic novels if they buy three or more. Most people will buy an extra to get that extra monetary incentive.

What’s your most popular graphic novel right now?

Black Hammer Vol. 1 is blowing out of here. Everyone here reads it, loves it and recommends it every single chance we get. In addition to selling tons of the regular monthly series, we’ve sold over 50 copies of the graphic novel so far !

What is the difference in marketing and selling graphic novels versus weeklies?

The graphic novels are overtaking monthly issues in a lot of cases nowadays. It seems like people are buying the first couple of monthly issues to see if they like them, and if so , they wait until the tp comes out and buy that . It makes it tough on our ordering, because people will move on to the next thing very quickly. The best part of graphic novels is that they have a beginning , middle and an end, and people like having a complete story they can put on their bookcase. No more looking in comic boxes is a plus.

If your staff had to agree on one graphic novel or graphic novel series to push for forever would you be able to? And if so what would it be?

This is easy. It’s all about Saga here. Ever since the series started, it have been our top seller, whether it is monthly issues or trades. We’ve sold thousands of the trades here, and they just keep selling and selling, with no end in sight. It’s almost a license to print money.”

Here’s a glimpse of our graphic novel selection.

Time Warp Comics makes it onto Travel and Leisure’s “25 Best Comics Shops in the U.S.”

In July of 2017, Time Warp Comics had the esteemed honor of being named one of the 25 Best Comic Book Stores in the United States by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Travel and Leisure Magazine determined the ranking of stores by compiling the quantity and quality of Yelp reviews of each store in their respected states. As fate would have it, it appears that Time Warp has some decent reviews, thus placing us at #25 on this list. It would also appear that we were the only store from Colorado to make it onto this list, and we are humbled knowing that.
